Banner designs for retirement parties

Retirement parties can be livened up with some great decorations. Making a banner to announce the retirement in big, bright colours will brighten up any party. This article gives you some ideas for banner designs for a retirement celebration.

Making your banner

Create your own banner using either cloth or paper.

If you are using paper, you can attach sheets of A4 together to make a suitable size or better still, use a roll of paper for a continuous look.

Wallpaper is great for banners as you can buy odd rolls cheaply. It is quite tough and therefore, it will last the night.

Cloth is also an option. You can buy plain white bed sheets in many shops. These can be cut to size.

What design?

To decide on your design for your banner, think of the person who is going to retire. Are he or she happy about his or her retirement or will he or she need cheering up? Your design can reflect this.

Wording

First, think about what wording you will want to use. Some suggestions are Happy Retirement, We’ll Miss You, Enjoy your New Life, Missing You Already and Work Won’t Be The Same.

Personalise your message by adding the person's name.

What to add

Work out the spacing of your message on your banner.

If you are using cloth, you can cut out cloth letters to glue or sew on and have them all placed neatly before you start.

With paper, you can use stencils to paint in or spray your letters on. You can also just go freehand but make sure that the message is spaced evenly and that you have left room for it all.

Borders

Once you have decided on your lettering, you can think about how to make your banner decorative. You could put a border around the whole banner. Glitter, sequins, balloons and tassels are great supplies to use for livening up the banner.

Images

Next, add in your images. What hobbies does your retiree like? Remind him or her of all the good things in life that he or she will have time to enjoy.

Pictures of golf, books, wine, cars (anything the retiree likes) can be added around the lettering. Design your banner to reflect them.
