Ideas for unique invitations

Published on by Sarah-Beth Watkins

Invitations for parties or weddings can be inexpensive and easy to make. However, the question is, how can you make them special? In this article, we look at ideas for truly unique invitations.

Card and cloth

Paper and card invites

Paper or card invites are the easiest to make but can be the most boring if you don't add something special to them. For girl's parties, you can add feathers, sparkles and sequins around the edges of the invitation to make it more interesting. For other parties, use one big graphic - say of a car for a boy's birthday party - and glue your invite into the middle.

Wedding card invitations

Wedding card invitations can be made by using white lace or silky cloth and gluing the invite in the middle for something more unusual. If you are really good at sewing and you have the time, you can stitch the wedding invite into the cloth. This type of invite will last for years.

Another way of using cloth is to have the invite printed on a t-shirt. This method is best for hen or stag nights when the recipient can also wear it to the party.

Beach party invites

Using pebbles and seashells

If you are having a beach party, you can make custom invitations using other materials. You can use a pebble with the date and place painted on it, or a card sprinkled with sand. Go with the theme and use large seashells with the invite rolled up inside.

You could also string small shells together to decorate the card, they are also removable and can be worn for the occasion.

Beer bottles

Another idea is to give out bottles of beer. Add a label to it that gives all the details of your party and remind them to bring more!

Photos invites

Photos are ideal invitations and can make great personalised invites. You can have photos made into postcards at High-Street shops giving you a ready-made invite with the picture of your choice.

For a wedding, you can use a picture of the couple, perhaps in a funny or relaxed pose. Photos can be transferred onto t-shirts, cups or place-mats and if you go in this route, your recipients will have a lasting invite for future memories.

Something truly unique

You can also print them on yourself and write your invitation on the back. If you are preparing invites for a special birthday party, choose baby photos or early fashion faux-pas pictures for a unique surprise invite.
