Using your computer

Type of card

Choose what type of card you want to use. You can use plain white card and add all the graphics and background images or you can get specialist card from office and art supply shops. You can get coloured card or those with a marble or patterned effect which you will only have to add text and maybe a photo to that will make the perfect save the date cards.

Procedures

If you are designing your card on the computer, select a border you would like and add in any text like names or the place. Next add an image, perhaps a photo image of the happy couple or a graphic that shows weddings. Then, add the all important date and make sure it really stands out by using a different font or bold colour. It should then be ready to print. The joy of using a computer means you can adjust the design or make several different ones until you are entirely happy with your save the dates cards.

Making them by hand

Handmade cards

If you are making them by hand, you need to decide on your design before you start. You will need plenty of art supplies to hand whilst making your cards. You can draw in a border or you can use material, glitter glue or tassles to make a very elaborate card. Pieces of white lace stuck around the edges gives a real wedding feel and you can also add in cloth hearts or other wedding imagery.

Procedures

Decide what you are going to write and add this in before you add any more decoration. Add the date by using gold or silver writing. You can purchase these pens from art and stationary suppliers. Colour co-ordinate your card so that it stands out. The colours red and gold go well together as do silver and white.

Next add your imagery. You can use cloth again or print out images to stick on the card. Wedding magazines are great for finding images you can cut out and use. A photo of the happy couple can also be added so that the date goes with the face. You can also add a magnet to the back of the card to make wedding save the date magnets.
