Fun ideas for wedding place card holders

Would you like to have unusual place name holders at your wedding? You can liven up the wedding dinner tables with place names with a difference. We give you some fun ideas for wedding place card holders.

From photos to sweets

Photos

Instead of place cards for weddings, how about using photos of the people you have invited? If you can get photos of everybody attending, you can have great fun making place names with a difference. Use photo software to change the photos. You can give them horns, add in silly hats or give them alien eyes. If you use tiny frames, which you can buy at discount shops, they will have a keepsake and a humourous reminder of your wedding day.

Sweets

For a sweeter touch, use cupcakes with your guest’s names on, written in icing. Have them sitting in the middle of their wedding place settings and use all different colours for the icing and the bun. You can also use chocolates in this way too. Dark mint chocolate with white icing piped on top makes for an after dinner treat. Your caterer may be able to supply these.You can also give a gift of sweets or after dinner mints wrapped in cloth. Embroider the names of guests on the cloth for a personalised place name holder.

From flowers to candles

Flowers

You will probably have flowers displays at your wedding reception so how about using a flower as a place card holder? Large flower heads can be used to hold the place card. Think of big sunflower heads or a huge dahlia and have the cards tucked into the petals. Long-stemmed flowers can also be used and names can be attached by wrapping them round the stems.

Candles

Candles are a lovely touch and can be taken home or lit later in the evening. Your place card can be sellotaped or tied to the candle with ribbon. Candles can be chosen for their fragrance as well as their colour to match the wedding theme. If the candles are in a glass, writings can be added using glass paint. This technique can also be used to paint names on wine glasses for the ladies and brandy glasses for the men. Glass paint can be bought at arts supply shops and you can make personalised glasses that will keep forever as a reminder of your special day.
